Description

Brief historical sketch of Rambo family. According to Mrs. Hall among the earliest settlers in Damascus. Accompanying image shows the Rambo family's log home, site of the earliest Post Office in Damascus.
"The first Rambo home was a log cabin on a hill west of town near the home of James Hand. The land extended down to the Laurel River and Mrs. Birdie Fischer, a granddaughter of John Rambo, still lives on it."
"About 1845 John Rambo built a log house, the kitchen of which still stands directly behind the big white house built in 1911 by the family of W.D. Rambo. Soon after the Civil War the first post office in this part of the county was established in the home of John Rambo, and his son, W.D. Rambo, was the first postmaster."
