Description

"The first factory to be established in Damascus aside from the lumber industries was the Beaver Chemical Company. The plant received its charter on January 19, 1919, with a capital stock of $50,000, and proceeded to manufacture dyes."
"One of the chief reasons for locating the plant in Damascus was the purity of the water flowing into Damascus in Beaver Creek. Some of the power equipment was obtained from the old Douglas Lumber Company plant in East Damascus. The first product that was manufactured was Sulfur Navy Blue, the first lots coming through about March 1, 1919."
"First officers of the Beaver Chemical Company were E.J. Rooney, president; J.L. Crist, secretary; C.A. Backer, treasurer. J.L. Crist was manager of the plant and Dr. Glen M. Smyth was technical director in charge of manufacturing."
