Description
"About the time the war ended children in this section were attending the old Laurel school, just started in a one room log house that stood where the Kestner house is built west of the Lincoln plant. This school was also a subscription school."
"Mrs. Fischer, Frank Wright, Mrs. Lucy Catron,Mrs. Dave Milsap and others of the older residents remember attending school there. When free public schools were established about 1875, the old log building was replaced by the frame house where Jack Kestner now lives. The house was moved back several feet to make way for the railroad that came through in 1900. One of the first teachers was Joseph Anderson."
