"In 1901 the first bank was opened in the two rooms also used by the Damascus Land Company. In 1903 the present bank building was erected. Officers of the first bank were J.W. Bell, president; R. Frank Fortune, vice-president; R.W. Kelly, cashier. In 1903 the bank received its charter listing capital stock at $25,000, with directors S.L. Mock, president; R.F. Fortune, vice-president; R.W. Kelly, cashier."
