Description
"In the fall of 1945, after World War II ended, expansion of the Damascus Lumber Corporation, owned by the Lincoln Furniture Company of Marion, began."
"The plant became part of Lincoln Industries, Inc. and is now the largest plant in Washington County, with an investment of over $5,000,000. Over 700 workers are now employed at the plant, and peak employment after expansion went over 1,000."
"The Conveyor [was] a plant paper published by Lincoln Industries for workers at the plant. The Conveyor was started in 1945 when expansion of the plant began, and Mrs. John Anderson came from Marion to be editor of the paper."
"The Conveyor carried news not only of plant activities but of town affairs as well, and was distributed free to all persons in or near Damascus."
"In June 1948, publication of the Damascus Blade was started by Mr. and Mrs. John Anderson. In the fall of 1949 the name of the paper was changed to the Washington County News, and as such it is now published at Abingdon."
