Depot Square Historic District

This brings us to the final stop on the AbingdonWalks 'Historic Marker Tour.' As stated at the outset, most of the markers are located in the original Historic District, as defined by the Virginia Dept. of Historic Resources [Abingdon Historic District 140-0037]. There are other markers nearby, such as the one near Sinking Spring Cemetery, VHR Marker K-52, which is only a couple of blocks north of the Fields-Penn House (Abingdon's Visitors Center) where we started our tour. In fact, Sinking Spring falls within the Abingdon Historic Extension, listed in 1986 [Abingdon Historic District Extension 140-0039], which includes a portion of Valley Street and the William King Arts Center. Also close by is the Depot Square Historic District.

As you can see, we've really just scratched the surface. For a more detailed look at Abingdon's unique history and the mind-boggling array of attractions in and around the area, we invite you to visit https://www.abingdonwalks.net/intro
